A 42-year-old man who had been a special education teacher at a Boulder-area high school has recently been charged with possessing child pornography and sexual exploitation of a child. According to court documents associated with the case, authorities first became aware of the man as a suspect when his roommate discovered sexually graphic images of young women on his phone and computer and alerted local police in March 2013. When investigators searched the man’s desktop and laptop computers, they found more than 100 images of females between 2 and 14 years old in sexually graphic scenes.

Although the man admitted to downloading pornography and bookmarking websites that he believed had images of underage girls so, as he stated, he would visit them in the future, many of the files that investigators found on the man’s computers were named with phrases and keywords often associated specifically with child pornography. While the investigation is still ongoing, police have stated that it does not appear at this time that any of the child pornography images found in the man’s possession included pictures of the man’s students.

Following the man’s arrest in March, the Boulder high school at which he worked placed him on administrative leave and ultimately did not renew his contract in April, effectively terminating him from his teaching position at the school. The man is currently being detained in an Adams County jail and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing in this case this week.
