Denver police have recently reportedly detained a 43-year-old man who is a convicted sex offender on new charges of sex assault. The man reportedly has been registering as a sex offender with the Aurora Police Department as a “transient offender,” which means that he doesn’t have a home address associated with his case.

While the Colorado sex offender registry does not list out the previous sex crimes that this man was specifically convicted, Denver police have explained that he has recently been detained due to his suspected role in a 2014 child sex crime. Because the alleged victim in this ongoing case is minor, investigators have not released any details about the child’s identity.

Additional Criminal Charges May Be Filed…

Given the limited details about this case that Denver police have made public at this time, it is currently unknown whether this man had been complying with his legal obligations to reregister as a Colorado sex offender (according to the strict rules of the registry). If prosecutors have determined that the man had, in fact, not been registering as he was supposed to, then – in addition to facing charges associated with the 2014 child sex crime that Denver police had mentioned in the statement regarding this man’s arrest – this man could face even more criminal charges, such as charges of “Failure to Register as a Sex Offender” and/or parole or probation violation charges.

Both Failure to Register and Parole/Probation Violation charges are extremely serious and could result in years being added to the man’s sentence if he is ultimately found guilty of any or all of the criminal charges in his case. When the severity of charges in cases like these threatens years in prison upon conviction, it’s criminal that the accused work with the trusted and experienced Denver sex crimes attorneys at Flesch Law in order to give themselves the best chances of obtaining the best possible resolutions to their case.
